90% of all data on a server normally are „fixed content“, which means they will not be changed anymore. To move them to an yrchive (and compress them) saves storage space and backup time. Still more inportant: for legal reasons Basel II, GoB, GDPdU, SOX), these must be protected from any changes. Thus simple disk storage is not sufficient.

The requirements are:
- data must not be deleted (WORM),
- data must be protected from changes (HASH512),
- data need a defined retention time,
- data can be migrated to a different storage volume and
- read access to singel documents must be granted at any time.

Solutions filling these needs today are very exxpensive. With iTernity systems there now is a Content Archiving Storage Solution (CAS) which can be combined with standard EUROstor RAID systems and manages the data over a head. It costs less than existing CAS solutions and data are beeing compressed by up to 50% and at the same time encoded to prevent access wihtout the head.
