8 TB RAID6 in 3U format with 500 GB disks

European IT Storage Ltd. now offers her ES-6600 SATA RAID6 systems with 500 GB disks, thus obtaining a capacity of 8 TB in one 3 U 16 disk rackmount enclosure.

This was made possible by the new Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 hard disks, that - first in the market – offer this new capacity level. These disks are already equipped with SATA-II and support Native Command Queuing. With these features they allow maximum performance for the ES-6600 RAID6 systems with Ultra320 or 2 Gbit FC interface to the hosts.

RAID6 systems with 500 GB disks are already shipping. 

 
“With the new 8 TB RAID systems you can store more than 100 TB in one 19” cabinet.” says Franz Bochtler, President of EUROstor. “This seems to be very much at first glance, but with the increasing share of disk technology in the backup market, also the capacity of SATA RAID solutions must be comparable to today’s libraries. Even with maximum security by using RAID6 our systems offer 7 TB of net capacity, more than all other existing 3U systems.” 

About  ES-6600 SATA-II RAID:

EUROstor 6600 SATA-II RAID systems can be offered with Ultra 320 SCSI and with Fibre Channel Interface, with 8, 12, or 16 disks. Their advantage: they support RAID6, a special technology that calculates parity on two different disks and with different algorithms. This increases availability without loosing too much performance, because RAID6 parity calculation is implemented on chip level.
