EUROstor ES-8200 FC/SAS RAID Faster with ASIC400 Technology

After starting with first 12 bay RAID systems some time ago with 4 Gbit Fibre Channel to the host, and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disks, now there two basic extensions of this new product series:
First,  the new systems can be equipped with 16 hard disk drives and furthermore be expanded with SAS JBODs. This makes systems attractive also for customers that have to manage huge amounts of data or want to increase performance by using many disks (spindles).
Second, these systems work with Infortrend´s new ASIC400 technology, which again increases controller performance by about one third.

Thus SAS based RAID systems have reached level of a size and performance that up to now was only available with systems based on Fibre Channel disks. For, SAS disks differ from FC disks only in their interface, but not in quality or performance. On the other hand, the SAS interface and connectivity (backplane etc.) are much less expensive then with comparable Fibre Channel Solutions. 

Furthermore in these new ES-8200 RAIDs RAID sets consisting of SAS disks can be combined with those consisting of SATA disks – within the same enclosure. With Fibre Channel RAIDs this could up to now only be achieved with different expansion boxes.
This combination allows – using one RAID box – to fulfill the needs of different applications. Programs that  depend mostly on high i/o rates store their data on performant SAS RAID sets. Others, where mostly capacity matters, use inexpensive SATA RAID sets.

EUROstor ES-8200, e.g. with 8 x 73 GB SAS (15,000 rpm)  and 8 x 320 GB SATA disks costs € 9.990,- incl. VAT (€ 8.612,10 without VAT). Systems are also available with redundant (active/active) controllers.
